Boise (670 KBOI News) – The Idaho Department of Lands is the new owner of 32,000 more acres of North Idaho forest land.
According to the Idaho Press, the Department bought the acres for $42.2 million, from the Molpus Woodlands Group.
The money came from the sale of state-owned lake cabin sites and other commercial properties. The Department is wanting to get away from owning those kinds of properties, and buy more actual endowment land.
The acreage is spread over five counties — Boundary, Benewah, Bonner, Shoshone and Latah.
The Department owns endowment lands, the proceeds from which go to fund public schools, universities, and other state buildings…timber sales generate the most revenue from those endowment lands.
