Meridian (670 KBOI News) – A Meridian Police officer, wounded in a fatal shooting with a suspect over the summer, is cleared of wrongdoing.
Officer Kyle Mikowski’s actions on July 1st were reviewed by Twin Falls County Prosecutor Grant Loebs, who said Mikowski had acted properly.
Meridian Deputy Chief of Police Tracy Basterrechea says Mikowski had tried to capture Daniel Norris, who refused and instead took off running.
“Officer Mikowski was involved in a foot pursuit with Norris, and was attempting to take him into custody, when Norris turned on him” said Basterrechea. “He started firing a handgun, striking Mikowski in both of his legs. Officer Mikowski fired eight rounds, striking Norris six times.”
Basterrechea says Mikowski is back on duty, though he’s still recovering from those leg wounds.
He again thanked Nedim Cavcic, the civilian who stepped up to give first aid to Mikowski, and keep him alert ad awake waiting for the paramedics to arrive.
