Boise Fire Project Way Over Budget

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The Boise City Council will put another $400,000 into the Fire Station #9 project.

At their Tuesday night meeting, the Council voted unanimously to spend the extra money for the station, at State and Sycamore.

The Idaho Press is reporting the additional funds will raise the total price tag to $5.3 million…it was originally priced at $1.2 million.

The station was part of the $17 million fire bond in 2014, which was supposed to have funded the new fire training center, and renovated four other stations. The total cost of all five facilities could top $34 million…twice the bond amount.

The City figured the cost, and set the bond amount, based on building prices at the time. before the building boom. They say since then, building materials have gone through the roof, and labor is hard to find.
