Boise (670 KBOI News) – Card skimmers aren’t just things criminals use in big cities…they’re here in the Treasure Valley as well.
Sergeant John Terry with the Boise Police Department says they’ve found several just in the last few weeks on ATMs and gas pumps across the city.
“We’ve had them used off and on over the years, in the last 4-6 weeks, we’ve had several of them,” said Terry. “These things are here, and we got one yesterday, off an ATM machine. We want the public to be aware and be careful when they use their financial cards.”
Card skimmers have gotten smaller and smaller over the years, and Terry says most people might not even notice them.
So his advice is to use inside ATMs whenever possible, and before you use a card scanner, look at it. If there are scratches, tape residue, or the scanner looks like it’s bee messed with at all, don’t use it, and tell the store or bank.
