Boise (670 KBOI News) – Paulette Jordan, the Democratic Party’s candidate for governor, says her ancestry as a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe makes her uniquely qualified for the office.
She told 670 KBOI’s Nate Shelman she’s running an unprecedented campaign, which has attracted the imagination of supporters nationwide.
“Unprecedented because they’re seeing someone who has never been of this land,” said Jordan. “As the only real Idahoan, the only real American running for this position, as a governor in of a state in our country, we’re setting all kinds of examples, in ways to show that, as an indigenous voices, you know, we are wholly connected to this land, we’re connected to our people.”
Jordan also said she didn’t favor changing any of Idaho’s gun laws, and that some of her family members owned AR-15 rifles.
This is despite her telling a reporter at a KTVB primary debate, that AR-15s have no place in Idaho, and her being endorsed by Rise Up, Idaho…which supports a ban on all so-called assault weapons.
She also said she plans to vote against Proposition 1, which would legalize instant horse race betting machines in Idaho, but if it passes, she’ll support the will of the people.
