UPDATE: Lockdown at Meridian High School Was Triggered by Open Door

Meridian (670 KBOI News) -New technology is to blame for an accidental school lockdown at Meridian High School this morning.

West Ada School District spokesman Eric Exline says they spent the summer installing scan-card access control systems at the District’s six high schools. Meridian High was the last one, and the installation apparently wasn’t completely finished.

“The system can do several things; two of them are it can trigger a lockdown, another thing it can do is, the doors send a signal if they’re open and they’re supposed to be locked all the time,” said Exline.  “The signal that was supposed to be telling the system that a door was open, instead told the system to go into lockdown.”

The problem has since been corrected, he says. They’ll start training students on the system and how to use their scan cards in the coming days.

He says eventually, all schools in the District will have some kind of controlled access system, from the news scan card types in middle and high schools, to buzz-in systems at elementary schools.
