No More Free School Breakfasts…Except for Needy Students

Burley (670 KBOI News) – The Magic Valley has the lowest unemployment rate in Idaho, and thanks to their booming economy, some students will have to start paying for their school breakfasts.

Cassia County Communications Director Debbie Critchfield says their food services director got word from the Department of Agriculture recently.

“There were some changes in the formula, that would impact our district,” said Critchfield.  “And it appears that we would no longer be able to offer free breakfast to every student, only for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch, would have the free breakfast, and other students would have to pay.”

She says they’ve been offering free breakfast to all students, regardless of need, for the last 20 years or so.

According to MagicValley.com, other counties that will stop giving free breakfast to all students include Minidoka and Twin Falls.
