Boise (670 KBOI) – When you go to the polls in November in Ada County, you’ll be asked to raise vehicle registration fees on yourself and your neighbors, to raise money for road and other transportation projects.
Ada County Highway District spokesman Craig Quintana says the group Citizens for Better Transportation, has formed to try to convince voters to increase fees, in order to raise roughly $7.5 million for road projects.
“Currently, the vehicle registration fee is a maximum of $40 for a new car, less for an older vehicle,” said Quintana. “So what this proposal would do is raise that maximum to $70 for the newest cars.”
You would also pay $69 in state fees, for a total of $139 to register a vehicle up to two years old.
When asked why ACHD doesn’t assess an impact fee on people from outside the county when they register their vehicles here, he said they’re not allowed by law to do that.
