Boise (670 KBOI News) – Do you plan on packing up the family and the dog this weekend for some camping in the cool forests and mountains? If so, you need to be aware of the fire restrictions in place.
The National Forest Service, the BLM and the Idaho Department of Lands have jointly issued Stage 1 fire restrictions until further notice. That means no campfires unless in approved campgrounds, in concrete or metal fire rings.
But Michael Williamson with the Boise National Forest says smokers, the restrictions apply to you, too.
“With Stage 1 fire restrictions, smoking is prohibited, with the exception for being inside an enclosed vehicle or building, or in a designated recreational site,” said Williamson. “We ask that you not be smoking outside, or if you do, make sure that there is bare ground beneath you for three feet in any direction.”
If your plans call for you to go up into North Idaho, there are Stage 2 restrictions in place in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest.
The following counties in Southwest and Southcentral Idaho are under Stage 1 restrictions:
Ada Gem Valley
Blaine Gooding Washington
Boise Jerome
Camas Lincoln
Canyon Minidoka
Cassia Owyhee
Custer Payette
Elmore Twin Falls
