Boise (670 KBOI News) – The recent closures of Highways 55 and 95 are stark reminders of the importance of panning ahead before you set out on your family vacation…or your weekend adventure.
Jennifer Gonzalez with the Idaho Transportation Department says you should check 511.idaho.gov to get the latest updates on road closures and conditions.
Also, if you head into an area where there’s some kind of emergency event happening — like a fire — have your head on a swivel, and don’t stop to looky-loo.
“When there are these operational events — fire, a crash, or some other event — motorists need to be really watching the sineage that is placed on the side of the highways,” said Gonzalez. “Watching for crews that are working, slowing down, paying attention, giving themselves enough time, and not stopping to take photos of what’s happening.”
Also, it’s a good idea to pack food, water and stuff to keep the kids occupied, because you could find yourself waiting in a line of traffic, if the road is down to one lane open.
