Boise (670 KBOI News) – The ballot initiative to get historic horse race gambling machines back in Idaho has cleared a major hurdle, after the Secretary of State’s Office certified 59,000 signatures, and adding it to the November ballot.
Todd Dvorak, with Save Idaho Horse Racing, which led the petition drive, says they’re not spiking the ball yet.
“There’s a lot of work yet to do,” said Dvorak. “We’ve got to convince voters that this is the right decision for Idaho and its long and colorful history of horse racing. This is good for the economy, it’s good for schools, so we’re not celebrating yet.”
The group turned in 114,000 signatures to county clerks, 61,000 of those were submitted to the Secretary of State’s office for final review. Of those 59,000 were verified, but only 56,192 were needed to get on the ballot.
