Boise (670 KBOI News) – Many Idahoans look forward to Independence Day fireworks…not just going to the show at Ann Morrison Park, but setting them off in the own driveways.

The problem is, some folks like to set them off out in the countryside, which is really, really dry right now.

That’s why Ada County Commissioner Jim Tibbs says they’re banning fireworks of all types in much of the County.

“This is a public safety issue, this is for the protection of peoples’ lives and their property,” said Tibbs.  “Unfortunately, we’ve had many experiences with, specifically, the use of fireworks.  If you remember the last major Foothills fire…that could have caused people their lives, it destroyed a lot of properties.”

The ban covers all unincorporated parts of the county, outside a fire protection district.

Tibbs says he’s been a Commissioner for six years now, and every summer they’ve passed the same ordnance…it goes until the end of the fire season.
