Boise (670 KBOI News) – The City of Boise is floating a trial balloon that could cause your property taxes to go up even further.
A city spokesman told the Idaho Statesman the City could consider a property tax levy to raise funds for affordable housing.
380 of the 594 respondents, most of them from the North End, said they would support the levy, but NNU economist Dr. Pete Crabb says he doubts the survey accurately reflects the entire population of the City.
“First, this is a very small sample, it’s a small survey, it’s an online survey, which generally are considered to have more measurement errors,” said Crabb. “So there is a lot of uncertainty as to what the populace would really accept, or want to pay in higher property taxes.”
He also said many renters may not realize they, too, pay property taxes…only the taxes they pay are their landlord’s.
The Statesman is reporting the idea is nowhere close to being added to the ballot at this time.
