Boise (670 KBOI News) – The US Forest Service is looking for information about an incident in which a wet meadow was destroyed by people mud bogging in 4x4s, in late April.
Mike Williamson with the Emmett Ranger District says it happened in the Tripod Meadow area, west of Smith’s Ferry…which is an ecologically important area.
“Wet meadows like that are just very important for the ecosystem,” said Williamson. “It affects downstream fish habitat, it affects big game. A lot of animals rely on those wet meadows, and to turn them into just a mud pit is not good. We absolutely encourage motorized recreational usage in the Forest, on the designated routes.”
A witness reported seeing Jeeps or similar 4x4s in the area around that time, but wasn’t able to give further details.
