Boise (670 KBOI News) – The Obama-era TIGER grant program — which stands for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery — is sending $3.2 million dollars to Idaho for a bridge project in Clearwater County.

Jennifer Gonzalez with the Idaho Transportation Department says with the Trump administration looking to use the $500 million dollar annual program in more rural states, they’re making sure they know how to best use the money when it comes in.

“We have a strong delivery rate with that program, which means the projects that are ‘shovel ready’, they are ready to go,” said Gonzalez.  “And so, across the state, what you are seeing is a close examination, and determining which projects could lend themselves to this TIGER grant funding.”

Urban planning groups groups aren’t happy with the shift to using TIGER to fund rural projects…until this year, it was used largely for urban bike paths, mass transit and so-called “complete street” projects.
