Boise (670 KBOI News) – It’s no secret that Idahoans have a lot of guns…but according to one online financial tracking company, Idaho’s economy is the most dependent on the firearms industry in the nation.
WalletHub.com ranked Idaho as the most dependent on the firearms business, for a number of reasons. Analyst Jill Gonzalez says it’s not so much because we make guns here.
“Not only actual manufacturing, per capita, but also a lot of firearms and ammunition dealers and importers per capita,” said Gonzalez. “As well as with jobs in the industry, and higher wages for those jobs.”
Idaho scored highest for number of firearms or ammunition jobs per capita, but was not even in the Top 5 for how much those jobs pay. The Gem State also scored highest in firearms industry output, and number 3 in total gun ownership per capita.
Rounding out the Top 5 were Montana, Alaska, South Dakota and Wyoming. The state least dependent on the firearms industry were New York, Deleware, Rhode Island, New Jersey…and Maryland was dead last.
