Mountain Home Air Force Base (670 KBOI News) – The commander of Mountain Home Air Force Base’s 366th Fighter Wing says they need to step back and re-evaluate plans to conduct training over Boise, Eagle and Meridian.
Colonel Joseph Kunkle says the training would be for F-15-E Strike Eagle fighter crews.
“High-altitude training, to train our crews in urban close air support,” said Kunkle. “Which is something our folks need to be proficient in, to save lives in combat scenarios they’re finding themselves in today.”
A “scoping” meeting was scheduled for tomorrow in Mountain Home, to gauge the public’s support or opposition to the training mission, but Kunkle said they canceled it after receiving a number of emails from people in Boise, Meridian and Eagle. The meeting will be re-scheduled for some time in the future.
Kunkle said they’ve held three such meetings with Southern Idaho towns already — Grandview, Glenn’s Ferry, and Twin Falls — and had not encountered any resistance there. But he said it was important to keep relations with the people of the Boise area on a good footing.
