If Republicans Hang On to the Senate, Risch Could be Foreign Relations Committee Chairman

Washington DC (670 KBOI News) – Idaho Senator Jim Risch could be the next Chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and that’s attracting attention for someone who, until now, is little known outside Idaho.  If the Republicans keep control of the Senate after the November elections, of course.

Risch sat down with Politico reporter Susan Glasser on her podcast, to talk about North Korea, the Russia investigation, and President trump’s Tweeting.

He said the world would turn a dangerous corner if North Korea were allowed to develop nuclear warheads capable of fitting onto a ballistic missile…and the resulting war would be a catastrophe.

“If this thing starts, it’s going to be probably one of the worst catastrophic events in our civilization,” said Risch.  “But it’s going to be very, very brief.  The end of it is going to see mass casualties the likes of which the planet has never seen.”

He’s also a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is conducting its own investigation into Russia election meddling. He wouldn’t go into details, but says they’re taking steps to punish Russia if they monkey with our elections again.
