Sorry Ducks, Dogs Are Taking Over Your Turf!

Duck Island, in the SW corner of Ann Morrison Park, will become Dog Island

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The ducks and geese that hang out on Ann Morrison Park’s Duck Island are getting the boot…or more like the paw.

Boise Parks and Recreation is planning to convert Duck Island, in the park’s southwest corner right off Americana, into a fenced-in off-leash dog park. Director Doug Holloway says they recently surveyed the people of Boise, and they said they wanted a place for Fido to run free.

“The two top priorities that our citizens told us they wanted to see were a new fountain, which is more interactive for children to be able to utilize, and the second was to take Duck Island, and turn that into a year-round dog park,”said Holloway.

Dog Island will feature a shelter, some drinking fountains, and a dog beach.

Holloway said there’s no timetable yet for starting work…they’re still trying to come up with the $400,000 to $500,000 to make it happen.

Meanwhile, he said if you enjoy duck watching, they may still be there…or they may move to Kathryn Albertson or Julia Davis Parks.
