Boise (670 KBOI News) – In the wake of Wednesday’s school shooting in Florida, calls are going out in the media and in Congress for expanded, “universal” background checks.
But Greg Pruett, President and founder of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, says as we saw in mass shootings like Sulfur Springs, Texas, San Bernadino, California, and others…background checks aren’t fool-proof.
“It’s always ‘we need universal background checks’; it isn’t going to stop anything,” said Pruett. “We’ve seen time and time again, that the background check system is completely flawed, and its completely ineffective. But some of them are becoming more bold, in admitting that they want to repeal the Second Amendment, and they want all the firearms confiscated.”
Pruett says he recently visited the Boise State campus, and did a “man on the street” video, asking students if they would feel safer if they were allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus…he said he was surprised to find the vast majority said yes.
He thinks arming teachers and having more School Resource Officers on campus are better ways to protect schools than passing more gun laws.
