Meridian (670 KBOI News) – If your daily commute takes you through the Eagle Road-Fairview Avenue area, you need to find another route this afternoon and tomorrow morning.
An overnight water main leak has Eagle Road torn up just south of the intersection.
Jake Melder with the Idaho Transportation Department says the water main has been repaired, and they’re working on rebuilding the area under the road.
“The repaving process is a little bit more extensive than you might think, at first,” said Melder. “We actually have to cut back away from the area where we dug; that also will help us with the testing of the base of the road, and to make sure we got all of the damaged areas taken care of.”
Meridian City Spokeswoman Kaycee Emery says no one actually lost water service, just a drop in pressure for about an hour.
She says Public Works doesn’t know what caused the crack, but it could have been something as simple as a rock.
“This was almost a perfect storm,” said emery. “A rock in these pipes can create pressure, and over years that builds and builds, and something like this can occur. They don’t know that’s what occurred, but they told me something like this is almost a perfect storm to make something like this happen.”
She says detour signs will be up this afternoon…if Eagle Road is your normal way home, you might want to think about taking Cloverdale or Locust Grove instead…just remember, Cloverdale is closed for construction between Fairview and Ustick.
