First Bill of 2018 Legislative Session is Now Law

Boise (670 KBOI News) – It is possible to get legislation through the Idaho legislature quickly, and House Bill 335 is the proof. In less than a month, the bill went from a proposal to passing both houses and being signed by Governor Otter.

The Governor told lawmakers it’s needed to help businesses and spur the economy, and joked that he’d like to see more bills pass that quickly…

“I’ve got to thank the legislative leadership for their leadership, and for their efforts” said Otter.  “I gotta tell you, this is a unanimous vote in both bodies…I got a couple others I’d like to see that kind of vote on!”

Lieutenant Governor Brad Little told the spectators Idaho had learned some hard lessons about not properly preparing for bad times during the good times.

He said he thinks the state’s rainy day fund, and the unemployment insurance fund both had large enough balances to weather the next downturn.
