Boise (670 KBOI) – One of the closely-watched issues in this year’s Idaho legislature is the repeal of the state’s grocery tax…which is disliked by both parties, and passed both houses last year before being vetoed by Governor Otter.
Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate AJ Balukoff is no fan of the grocery tax, either.
“Most Idahoans believe we should not be taxing groceries, and even our tax code believes that,” said Balukoff. “We tax groceries, then we try to give the tax back through a tax credit when you file your income tax return. Meanwhile, we’ve made an interest-free loan to our government.”
Balukoff issued a statement calling on lawmakers to introduce a repeal bill ASAP, saying the state is balancing the budget on the backs of working people, every time they go grocery shopping.
