Erpelding: Affordable Housing Law Passed 25 years Ago, Nothing’s Been Done

Boise (670 KBOI News) – Housing prices are going through the roof, and so are rents…and Idaho House Minority Leader says what’s needed right now is affordable housing for hard-working Idahoans.

He says in 1992, the Legislature passed the Idaho Housing Trust Fund law, which is supposed to provide incentives to builders and developers to build affordable housing…but nothing’s been done with it.

He says he’s putting together a bipartisan coalition of state, city and county leaders to try to get the Trust Fund on a functioning basis, but you need to do your part, too.

“If you are a person who’s struggling to make ends meet, and you’re a person that works hard, and continues to see your childcare bills, your housing bills go up, but your wages don’t meet that, it’s time to start talking to our elected leaders,” said Erpelding.

Erpelding says it’s not just Ada and Canyon Counties that are experiencing crisis-level shortages of workforce housing…it’s happening across the state.
