Boise (670 KBOI) – It’s official…parking rates and hours in downtown Boise will change on February 1st.
The City Council made the new ordnance official at its meeting today, but City Spokesman Mike Journee says they’ll check back in a few months to see if the new ordinance is effective.
“We’ve got technology in place now, to where we can understand how people park downtown,” said Journee. “We understand their behaviors, and where they’re parking and how long. So as a result of these changes, we can go back and look at the data, in six months’ time, and determine whether or not these ordnance changes are having the impact we want them to have.”
The new ordnance includes new enforcement hours — 8:00 am ’til 8:00 pm weekdays, and 10:00 ’til 5:00 Saturdays, and new meter rates — those meters closest to the downtown core will cost $2 for the first hour and $3 for the second hour.
On Saturdays, parking will cost 50 cents an hour, but there will be a two hour limit.
