State Rep. Paulette Jordan will run for Idaho governor in 2018.

The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports the Democrat announced her candidacy Thursday evening at a 38th birthday party for her at in downtown Moscow.

Jordan, in her second term representing Latah and Benewah counties, will face A.J. Balukoff, a Boise Democrat who ran four years ago, in the spring primary election.

If elected, Jordan would make history. She would be the first woman to serve as Idaho governor and the first Native American woman to serve as governor of any state.

Jordan is a native of Idaho and an enrolled member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe of Idaho.
